Texas!

I just got back on Tuesday night from visiting Hank. I didn't take very many pictures while I was there. His friend's wife has a bunch of pictures from the first two days that I'm hoping Hank will send me. Anyways though, I had a really good time meeting everyone!
Hank graduated from TBS on Thursday(in Quantico). It was interesting because they made the graduates wait outside. They didn't get to hear any of their own graduation....

This is Hank and me with two of his dogs. Baby is laying on me, and Jack is standing at attention for the picture. The funniest part of this picture is that this is take number 7 or so. Hank's little brother Ryan was taking the picture and everytime it came out blurry, or too dark, or he had almost missed us completely.

Hank decided if I was going to make him ride a snowmobile(that is if we get any snow) that he was going to make me go horseback riding while I was there.

The horses needed their feet trimmed or something like that so Hank and Ryan helped their dad and a friend out for a couple of minutes instead.

Saturday night my assistant manager hosted a Christmas party for our floor... a very ambitious deed considering there are always people working and its hard to get nurses together. Quite a few people came though. Carrie and Denae. The Crew (my preceptor, MJ, is standing next to me in red, my assistant manager Caroline is in the black tank top.)

Its so nice out today we decided to play outside! We picked up Amara and had lunch on the waterfront in Georgetown, went to visit the Awakening, then went and bought a frisbee and nerf football and played in the park!!!

The National Arboretum

The weather has been really nice this weekend, a little cold, but sunny blue skies. On Saturday Hank and I went to one of my favorite places in DC....the arboretum. He'll admit that it wasn't exactly "his cup of tea," but I think he enjoyed it anyway.
Hank really liked the Herb garden....hmm ok maybe not so much, but I thought the medicinal herb part was really cool.
I always enjoy the Bonsai trees so I insisted we go see them.
This was one of our favorites. Wierd freakin trees.

The Awakening

I went on a lunch cruise on the Potomac the other day for work. One of the things that caught my eye was this statue called the Awakening. It is near the Jefferson so Hank and I went to check it out the other night. It is a statue of a giant rising from the earth. It started as a temporary exhibit but people liked it so much they ended up leaving it where it was. I also read that the land its on sometimes floods. It is a kinda creepy statue to begin with, I can only imagine what it looks like when its just giant body parts sticking out of some water.

Hank wanted me to get inside the giants mouth. I refused, so Hank went ahead and did it himself.
Hank seems to have about as much respect for statues as megan.

I kind of have this wierd feeling that Amy and Curt took us to see it once and I'm just not remembering. You would think I'd remember a statue like this though.

Amara's Family Comes to Town

Amara's brother, sister, and sister's boyfriend were in town this week. It was fun to spend some time with them, and I think they really enjoyed DC.

On Saturday night Hank and I joined Amara, her family, and Jo for dinner in Georgetown. We went to a place calle JPauls. Hank tried to pick up the bill and got a firm scolding from Amara's mom. It was awesome.
After dinner we walked over to a place called Mr. Smith's. Amara's friend Kristen and her fiance met us over there. Here are all the girls. Joya, Me, Amara, Jo, and Kristen.

Transplant Nurses

I haven't done anything worth blogging lately...just a whole lot of working.... so i figured i'd blog about some of the nurses i work with. In the spring the 4 transplant attendings paid for any of the nurses from the transplant floor and whoever wanted to come from the transplant clinic to have dinner at a fun Mexican restaurant near Dupont. There are a lot of younger nurses on our floor and some of my favorites were there.

Alexis i love to work with cause we just bicker the entire time we're working. If the patients could hear our maturity level in the med room they would never ever let us take care of them. Amara, of course, is one of my most favorite people here in DC. She no longer works at Georgetown but i still see her most ever day. Denae is hysterical. She is actually down in Guatemala for two months learning spanish(crazy girl), and i can't wait for her to get back.

Hank

I don't have any pictures of the two of us---never think about it but will take some soon. This is the best your gonna get for now. I stole these from his Myspace(Shhhhh don't tell him).
I only see him on the weekends because he is going to a Marine school for officers called The Basic School. He lives on the base in Quantico, VA.
He is from Texas. I think most of his family is from is from El Paso.
And yes, he does smile, apparently just not for these pictures.

Thursday Night at the Ballroom

Amara and I took a trip to Rehoboth Beach(DE) over Labor Day weekend. While we were there we discovered this awesome cover band called Mr. Greengenes. We realized when we got home and looked them up, although they are from Philly, they often play in DC. So last Thursday night we went to the Claredon Ballroom to see them.

This is Joey, the keyboard player. Yup apparently I'm not shy. Amara left me to go to the bathroom and she came back to find me talking to yet another band member...

Yay for fun bands!!!!! (Also yay for sisters that listen to her demanding sisters and post lots of fun pictures!!!!)

Everyones all growed up.

The location of the Clay family members has changed significantly in the last couple of months. The Leonards are all the way out in Washington; soon to close on their new house, Cami is out at BYU, Dave is coming home from Iraq, Nicki and the kids are up in Auburn, and I'm all the way down in DC. Since Amy's first blog about Ian we've discovered Blogs are a terrific and fun way to keep updated. Amy and my mom have been so good about keeping the blogs updated, but now Cami is so far away, and of course I'm always dying to see pictures and hear stories about Nicki's kids, I thought maybe if I started blogging the other two sisters would follow suit. So here it begins.
